On July 28–30, Columbia County’s economic development team hit the road to connect directly with local businesses. Van Brown, Economic Development Specialist, and EJ Ghobar, Business Retention and Expansion Manager with the Department of Commerce, spent three days visiting six businesses across the county.
Listening and Learning
At each stop, business owners and managers shared not only what their companies do but also the challenges they face. Concerns ranged from funding opportunities to the need for qualified employees. Van and EJ listened carefully, offered feedback, and took notes to guide future solutions.
Turning Conversations Into Action
Back at the local level, Van supports businesses through her Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) network, providing resources, connections, and a sounding board for entrepreneurs. When challenges fall outside her immediate scope, she collaborates with EJ to ensure businesses get the expertise and guidance they need.
These visits were more than just meetings—they were the foundation for new partnerships and practical next steps. The team has already begun working on solutions that will strengthen the local business environment.
A Win for Columbia County
The outcome of these visits is clear: stronger connections, new collaborations, and a renewed focus on meeting the needs of local businesses. This is yet another step forward for Columbia County’s economic development efforts.
